Solutions to win: Ukrainian engineers develop two new models of machine guns
In Ukraine, the defense-industrial complex is testing promising domestic 14.5×114-mm and 12.7×99-mm machine guns, which are planned to replace the Soviet KPV and NSV machine guns.
ArmyInform reports this.
What is the problem?
It is emphasized that Ukrainian developments are essential and expected in the Defense Forces due to the intensive use of resources of existing machine guns.
In addition, the new machine guns have better characteristics than their Soviet counterparts and, therefore, should replace them in the army.
What is the solution?
As noted, both models are developed by a private enterprise producing small arms for a long time for the needs of Ukraine's armed forces.
How does it work?
The new machine gun with a 14.5×114-mm caliber cartridge is designed to attack lightly armored targets such as armored personnel carriers, infantry fighting vehicles, fire equipment, and enemy workforce behind light shelters.
After appropriate tests and approval for operation, the domestic product should replace the KPV machine gun (KPV-T) as part of the main armament of Soviet-made APCs and BRDM.
In the future, it can be used as an infantry machine gun, with the possibility of installation on a machine.
The second machine gun was designed for the 12.7×99 mm caliber. It is an analog of the Soviet NSV machine gun and the American-made Browning M2.
Once it is operational, it will replace the Soviet NSV machine gun. The machine gun can be utilized in three ways:
- as a bipod for infantrymen,
- on an easel,
- and mounted on tanks like the T-64.
For reference:
It's worth mentioning that the Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov and the military technology platform Brave1 recently tested 25 Ukrainian developments in the field, including kamikaze robots and remote turrets that will soon be deployed to the front.
In addition, LLC "Ukrainian Armored Vehicles" has fully resumed the production of mortars of various calibers, and this year alone, it has already supplied Ukraine's armed forces with more than 600 units.
