Russian rocket attack kills one civilian, injures eight in Lviv: residential buildings and local school hit
Lviv, a western city in Ukraine, was attacked by Russian forces on December 29. The attack damaged residential buildings and a critical infrastructure site.
A Russian rocket attack killed one person, and eight others are confirmed injured, Rubryka reports, citing Maksym Kozytskyi, the head of the regional military administration.
Lviv experienced two waves of Russian attacks today. During the night, there were drone strikes.
Air defense systems were activated in the Yavoriv district of the Lviv region. Explosions were also heard in Lviv due to the anti-aircraft defense operations.
Later, Mayor Sadovyi reported that over 10 Shahed drones attacked the Lviv region.
As a result of the attack in Lviv, a fire broke out at a critical infrastructure site. No further details are available at this time.
Early in the morning, there were more explosions in Lviv. According to locals, the city heard loud noises.
Air Force had warned about the movement of Russian rockets toward Ukraine's west.
Kater, local authorities reported a strike on a multi-story residential building located on Khotkevycha Street.
Other buildings nearby, including apartment complexes, were damaged by the shockwave.
A fire also erupted in a local school due to the rocket attack. Three schools and a kindergarten were also damaged.
According to the latest information, one person died, and eight others were injured as a result of the rocket strike in Lviv. All injuries are reported to be of moderate severity.
"At the time of the rocket attack, people were in their homes. Most injuries occurred due to shards of windows shattered by the shockwave," said Maksym Kozytskyi.
Lviv Mayor Andrii Sadovyi also announced that three schools and a daycare were damaged due to the attack. Residential buildings were also affected by the shockwave.
Russia's Massive Attack on Ukraine
Russian forces have been launching rocket and drone-kamikaze attacks on Ukraine since last night. Explosions have been reported in several regions, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Dnipro, Odesa, Sumy, and Cherkasy regions.
In four major Ukrainian cities, buildings are on fire as a result of the attack.
In Kyiv, air defense systems were activated. Debris fell in the Podilskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts of the capital.
It is also reported that rockets hit Kharkiv. The city recorded 22 explosions during the mass attack. Eight people were injured, and one person died.
More explosions were also reported in Lviv on the morning of December 29, with damage to a residential building reported.
In Dnipro, Russian strikes damaged a maternity hospital, leading to casualties and injuries. A shopping center in the city is also on fire.
Moreover, on the night of December 29, the south of Ukraine was again attacked by Shahed drones. Infrastructure in the Odesa region was hit, and in Odesa itself, an apartment building was damaged by the fragments of a downed drone. In total, the Russians launched 22 Shahed drones, with 18 of them being downed.
