Ukrainian Food Foundation opens food relief center in Kyiv
The Ukrainian Food Foundation has opened a charity kitchen in Kyiv to provide food relief to war-exhausted families, ShoTam media outlet reports.
What is the problem?
The problem of food shortages due to the war is becoming more acute, which is repeatedly stated in the international field, says Andriy Beregovyi, the co-founder of the organization.
"Today, the problem of food shortages due to the war is becoming more and more acute. This is loudly stated in the international arena, and we at the Ukrainian Food Foundation see it from the inside, working with the issue every day.
For 4 years now, our foundation has been fighting the problems of poverty and hunger in Ukraine by saving surplus food and beverages from disposal, which were donated by food chains and manufacturers on an industrial scale, and distributing them free of charge to Ukrainians who need it most."
What is the solution?
December marked exactly one year since the Ukrainian Food Foundation provided food support with the state-based PepsiCo company.
The charity kitchen is a logical continuation of this cooperation, "which will allow to take support for Ukrainians to a new level."
How does it work?
The Noble Kitchen aims to feed people through and daily. It is the first kitchen in Ukraine to follow the "zero waste" philosophy, releasing no harmful substances.
The project is focused on preparing and delivering meals to people among refugees who are most in need of food relief.
The rescued products are mainly used to prepare delicious and nutritious food. Food chains and manufacturers donate them on a charitable basis, allowing them to buy only what they need.
The team plans to distribute more than 10,000 meals a month to refugees. Their own kitchen will make hot meals for thousands of people more qualitative, varied, and most importantly, regular.
Along with the kitchen, the foundation also opened a charity restaurant to serve lunches and dinners for refugees for free.
The Noble Kitchen project, which combines a hot food kitchen and a restaurant, is being implemented with the support of PepsiCo Ukraine and funding from the PepsiCo Foundation.
"Often, during massive food aid distributions, we see people from the same cities, even neighbors, who met each other for the first time since they were forced to leave their homes. These are very emotional meetings. Therefore, in addition to the main function – to feed people deliciously – the restaurant team aims to create a community where people can spend time together, communicate and recover emotionally, and most importantly, eat delicious food," Beregovyi said.
