Ukraine's book production increases by 73% in 2023 – culture ministry
Ukraine's book industry surges to record highs in 2023 as print runs jump 203%.
During the year, 270 new publishers were registered in Ukraine, and another 32 had their certificates reissued, the culture ministry reports.
Compared to previous years, in pre-war 2021, 293 publishing entities were entered in the State Register, and in 2022, 152 entities were entered. Over the 23 years of keeping the State Register, a total of 1216 certificates have been revoked.
At the beginning of December, the Ukrainian Book Institute and Kyiv Book Weekend compiled a list of bestsellers in four nominations in 2023. The "Unconditional leader" of the nomination was the "Non-canonical canon" book series of the Vikhola publishing house.
Rubryka previously reported that only 8% of Ukrainians read books daily in 2020, but now that number has risen to 17%. There has been a noticeable increase in the frequency of reading in Ukrainian as well.
This is evidenced by the results of the study "How Ukrainians read during a full-scale war" – 2023″ by the Ukrainian Book Institute.
