Timothy Snyder has raised $950,000 for Safe Sky sensor system and continues air defense campaign

Timothy Snyder, along with four professors from leading universities, has raised $950,000 for the "Safe Sky" system, an air target detection system.
These funds will cover the cost of 2,500 sensors and will protect the Sumy, Odesa, Mykolaiv, and Kherson regions from drones and missiles, Rubryka reports, citing United24.
According to the agency, the professor from Yale University continues fundraising, with the next target being an additional $950,000. The "Safe Sky" project will then extend to the Kharkiv, Kirovohrad, Poltava, and Cherkasy regions.
As reported by United24, the modern Ukrainian development is capable of:
- Detecting air targets, even those flying at low altitudes.
- Predicting their route for further neutralization.
- Thanks to artificial intelligence, the system can also anticipate where future threats may originate.
"I was very pleased to see how quickly people responded to the 'Safe Sky' project. The support from people worldwide saved lives and gave peace to families who might otherwise have suffered. Now, with the onset of winter, I hope that we can do the same in four more regions of Ukraine. It's a time for generosity, and we can all make a contribution," said Timothy Snyder.
The agency noted that the "Safe Sky" air target identification sensor system has proven effective in test mode against cruise missiles and Shahed 136 UAVs. During trials in 11 regions of Ukraine, it detected 100% of airborne threats without any errors. To ensure effective protection for the country, 12,500 sensors are needed.
This marks the second fundraising effort by the distinguished historian and ambassador of UNITED24, Timothy Snyder.
He was supported by:
- Francis Fukuyama from Stanford University,
- Rory Finnin from Cambridge,
- Timothy Garton Ash from Oxford,
- Serhii Plokhii from Harvard.
These prominent scholars joined forces to protect Ukrainians from Russian shelling ahead of the coming winter.
UNITED24, initiated by the President of Ukraine, is a fundraising platform and the main channel for collecting donations to support Ukraine. In one and a half years of operation, UNITED24 has raised $502,679,248 from donations in over 110 countries.
Among the ambassadors of UNITED24 are singer and actress Barbra Streisand, actors Mark Hamill, Liev Schreiber, Misha Collins, and Mark Strong, actresses Katherine Winnick and Ivanna Sakhno, the band Imagine Dragons, art director Demna Gvasalia, director Michel Hazanavicius, astronaut Scott Kelly, historian Timothy Snyder, entrepreneur Richard Branson, country singer Brad Paisley, British explorer Bear Grylls, philosopher and economist Francis Fukuyama, chef José Andrés, Nobel laureates Paul Nurse, Edward Moser, and May-Britt Moser, and prominent Ukrainian athletes Andrii Shevchenko, Elina Svitolina, Oleksandr Usyk, and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
