UAE sends 50 evacuation ambulances to Ukrainian medics

The United Arab Emirates is donating 50 ambulances to Ukraine to support the state's medical infrastructure. The transfer is possible with the assistance of Ukraine's embassy and the Olena Zelenska Foundation.

What is the problem?

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Russia has been systematically destroying and stealing ambulance fleets in the occupied regions. Over 480 ambulances have been damaged, destroyed or seized, which makes the regular replenishment of ambulance fleets vital to provide timely medical care to people, says Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko.

Russian forces continue to target civilian infrastructure, including medical facilities.

What is the solution?

The Olena Zelenska Foundation continues to develop the area of medicine, as citizens critically need access to medical services during a full-scale war. One of the key challenges for Ukraine today is the medical evacuation of civilians, especially in regions and communities near the war zone.

The UAE government, with which the Olena Zelenska Foundation has a successful track record of implementing humanitarian projects, is donating 50 ambulances to Ukraine. The first batch of 14 ambulances has already been delivered to Ukraine.

"Doctors are often forced to provide emergency care under fire, risking their own lives and health. The ambulances will allow us to evacuate people near the war zone and hopefully save thousands of lives," said Nina Gorbacheva, director of the foundation.

Each vehicle is equipped with everything necessary to provide emergency medical care to save lives.

How does it work?

The recipient is Ukraine's health ministry, which distributes them to those regions that need special transport for medical evacuation and assistance the most.

The ambulances are equipped with oxygen cylinders, heart monitors, defibrillators, electrocardiographs, and artificial lung ventilation devices. They can save a person in case of cardiogenic shock, provide assistance during childbirth, resuscitate patients, provide general anesthesia, and perform primary surgical treatment of wounds. This is exactly what our doctors need in the difficult conditions Ukraine is facing.

Previously, Ukraine received 7 ambulances from the Swiss Embassy.
