Germany sends €6.1 mln winter aid package to Ukraine

Germany prepared a winter aid package for Ukraine worth 6.1 million euros, the Federal Foreign Office says.

The Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) is currently preparing to transport more than 500 additional power generators. Heaters, camp beds, tents, living containers, winter sleeping bags, winter clothing, a mobile field kitchen, and two drinking water treatment plants are being provided, too.

Interior Minister Nancy Faser noted that "Germany supports the people of Ukraine, who are suffering incredibly from the war."

"We want to continue to help where help is needed most. This is a humanitarian imperative. We have brought more than 400 tons of aid to Ukraine. We are supporting the Ukrainian fire service, rescue and disaster relief service. Now we will deliver another 500 power generators, heaters, tents and living containers. This is the largest logistics operation in THW's history," the official said.

The German FM Annalena Burbock, said, "with the help of a winter protective umbrella placed over Ukraine, Germany is helping people survive the fierce cold season not only in the form of air defense systems but also generators, blankets, tents, and batteries."

"THW is currently preparing to transport more than 500 more power generators with a total value of about 3.5 million euros. The goal is to help cities and communities, especially in the frontline areas. To support the energy infrastructure in Ukraine, THW has already purchased more than 1,300 powerful generators (up to 1,250 kVA) and 20 battery packs. More than 800 generators and 15 battery packs have already been delivered to various partners in Ukraine. They use them at thermal power plants, pumping stations, large bakeries and hospitals," the report adds.

Two water treatment plants will soon be handed over to Ukraine's ater Resources Agency to provide clean water to the population.

Previously, the German government announced another support package for Ukraine, which includes ammo, and other resources vital for the industrial field and energy grid.
