On December 14, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Germany for an unannounced visit.

A Frankfurt police spokesman says Zelensky landed at Frankfurt Airport and was escorted by law enforcement officers to a meeting in the Rhine-Main district. Increased security measures have been taken throughout the region, and a number of roads have been closed.

Upon arrival, Volodymyr Zelensky headed to Wiesbaden, where the US military assistance headquarters for Ukraine is located.

The exact reasons for the Ukrainian leader's visit to Germany are unknown.

The German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, along with other European leaders, is currently in Brussels for the EU Leaders Summit.

Since last week, the President has been traveling abroad, including to Argentina, the United States, and Norway.

Zelensky planned to attend the EU summit in Brussels, where the issues of Ukraine's accession to the EU and long-term financial support are being considered.

According to two European diplomats, at a meeting of EU representatives, several ambassadors expressed reservations about inviting Zelenskyy to the summit.

They feared that the presence of the Ukrainian president could antagonize Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and make the Hungarian's position on Ukraine even more intransigent.

Ukraine's President spoke to EU leaders via video link. The head of state believes that it is important that Europe does not fall into indecision and betray the faith of the people today. If the EU leaders are indecisive, the results of the EU summit will be a victory for Vladimir Putin.
