Ukraine's air defense downs 41 out of 48 drones in night Russian attack

During the night of December 6, Ukrainian forces successfully repelled a Russian attack by 48 Shahed drones.

According to the Ukrainian military, Russian forces targeted several regions of the country with Shahed-136/131 combat drones from two directions:

  • Kursk Oblast (Russia),
  • Primorsko-Akhtarsk (Russia).

Overall, military sources recorded launches of 48 Shahed-136/131 combat drones.

"In the result of anti-aircraft combat by the Air Force, in cooperation with the Air Defense Forces of Ukraine, 41 enemy combat drones were destroyed," said the Air Force.

The Air Force clarified that the operation involved fighter aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, and mobile fire groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk, the Commander of the Air Force, expressed gratitude to all the soldiers for defending the airspace and highlighted the effective work of the mobile fire groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to the general, the video footage shows the destruction of Shahed-type combat drones in the south of the country, where the anti-aircraft battle is ongoing.

"Today, the South Air Command is on the offensive! They destroy everything — both enemy aircraft and combat drones! Thanks to everyone involved for their work! The video shows the destruction of combat drones in the south of the country! We continue the anti-aircraft battle against 'Shaheds,'" said the commander around midnight.

On the night of November 25, Russia conducted one of the largest attacks with Shahed-type drones on Ukrainian territory. Lieutenant General Serhii Naiev, the commander, shared videos of the mobile groups' work during the attack, stressing that "the battle lasted almost 10 hours."
