Schools to receive Wi-Fi routers and webcams for learning during air-raid alerts

Ukrainian schools in 23 regions will receive 1,600 Wi-Fi routers and 1,000 webcams from international partners.

The Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, reported this.

What is the problem?

The Ukrainian schoolchildren have already begun their second academic year amidst the harsh reality of war, with the constant sound of air raids. The war has significantly changed how education is delivered in its form and content. The ongoing hostilities and destruction of schools by the invading country, along with the constant fear of being targeted by Russian missiles, have greatly impacted the education system and hindered students' right to receive it.

Education in times of war is an important topic that requires cooperation between government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and the international community to ensure the protection of children and maximum educational opportunities in such difficult conditions.

Speaking about the availability of education during the war, it is also worth remembering the need for sufficient financial resources, appropriate infrastructure, and equipment.

What is the solution?

Ukrainian schools in 23 regions will receive Wi-Fi routers and webcams from international partners.

How does it work?

According to Fedorov, dozens of educational institutions will install equipment in computer science classrooms, shelters, and bomb shelters so that students can study safely, even during air raids.

"You will be able to monitor the transfer of equipment on a public dashboard. This will make it possible to minimize corruption risks and make the process as transparent as possible," the minister noted.

Fedorov noted that all equipment was received from Ukraine's partner CISCO Corporation with the support of USAID.

"Back in June, together with the company, a memorandum of cooperation was signed. In particular, Ukraine joined the global Cisco Country Digital Acceleration program, which operates in 48 countries. Its task is accelerating digitalization, increasing GDP, and using more innovations in the public and private sectors," Fedorov said.

It should be noted that Sweden will provide Ukraine with more than 6 million euros to restore schools and kindergartens.

Rubryka also reported that the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine signed a memorandum of understanding with the Zhytomyr City Council and the representative office of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Ukraine regarding the creation of new standards for shelters.
