Russia attempts to quell unrest among wives of military mobilized for war against Ukraine – British intelligence
The Russian authorities are probably trying to suppress the public dissent of the wives of Russian soldiers, in particular by bribing or discrediting them on the Internet.
British intelligence reports this.
"Research by independent Russian media outlets and comments by protesting wives themselves suggest that, in recent weeks, the authorities have likely offered increased cash payments to families in return for them refraining from the protest," the press service writes.
According to intelligence, on November 27 of this year, one of the well-known online groups of wives of Russian conscripts published a manifesto against "indefinite mobilization." Later, a "fake" warning label was attached to the group. Probably, this happened at the request of pro-Kremlin authors.
"The authorities are likely particularly sensitive to any protests related to those citizens mobilized in September 2022, who have now been at the front line for over a year," the intelligence added.
For reference:
It should be noted that the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine informs that social tension is growing within the Russian Federation, in particular, in its European part. According to the Ukrainian intelligence, Russian officials and representatives of the special services themselves state the worsening of the social situation, particularly in closed reports to senior leaders. The increase in the protest activity of the Russian population is expressed by increasingly higher dissatisfaction with the war against Ukraine.
