Western air defense trumps Soviet systems with critical advantage – Ukraine's armed forces
Western air defense systems have a critical advantage over Soviet air defense systems.
Serhii Nayev, commander of the United Forces of Ukraine's armed forces, said this in a comment to ABC News.
According to him, where the Soviet air defense system uses 100 shells to shoot down a target, the Western one needs less than a dozen.
"We understand that there is currently a war for resources. The Russian Federation receives its resources with the help of the "Axis of Evil" – this is North Korea, this is Iran. And we, with the help of our partners, receiving air defense equipment from them, oppose the Russian Federation with its resources. We must understand that the reduction of aid will really affect our defense capability. But we will fight with what we have," the general said.
Nayev added:
"Technology is critical. If the old Soviet equipment needs to spend 100 shells on a target, then the Western one needs much less; the need is measured in numbers less than ten. Therefore, technology always has an advantage, and I emphasize once again: this assistance is very, very important for us."
He warned that if Russia continues to produce weapons and improve its technology, the war could again go beyond the borders of eastern and southern Ukraine.
"We are preparing for this, building defenses, laying mines, and training our forces," the general said.
For reference:
It should be noted that on November 25, the Ukrainian Air Defense Forces repelled the largest drone attack by Russia during the war. Some of the seven dozen drones flew to Kyiv, but they, too, were shot down over the city.
It was announced on the same day that Ukraine and its allies had agreed to install robust air defense systems in the Odesa region.
Referring to the Facebook page of the command of the United Forces of Ukraine's armed forces, Rubryka reported that the Defense Forces are increasing the number of mobile fire groups and honing their skills in the Northern operational zone.
It should be noted that earlier, Nayev showed the work of mobile groups on Shahed drones during the massive attack on Kyiv on November 25.
In addition, the commander previously said that well-known anti-aircraft missile complexes and many mobile air defense fire groups guard the Ukrainian skies in the Northern operational zone.
