Switzerland to provide Ukraine with more than €3 million for Grain From Ukraine initiative

Switzerland will allocate more than €3 million to implement the Grain From Ukraine initiative to supply Ukrainian grain to the poorest countries.

This was stated by the President of Switzerland, Alain Berset, during the food security summit in Kyiv, the Swiss Embassy informs.

The Swiss leader announced that the country will allocate 3 million Swiss francs, about €3.1 million, to the World Food Program, which implements the initiative.

Berset also noted that about 11 million Ukrainians need food aid due to Russian aggression.

What is known about the initiative Grain From Ukraine

Last year, on the 90th anniversary of the start of the Holodomor, Ukraine launched the Grain From Ukraine initiative, within the framework of which, by the middle of next year, about 60 ships with Ukrainian grain are planned to be sent to the poorest countries in Africa.

Then, Austria supported this initiative and allocated €3.8 million to supply Ukrainian grain to people in need in Ethiopia and Sudan.

In addition, Poland also contributed €20 million to the Grain From Ukraine initiative, which is designed to ensure the delivery of Ukrainian grain to African countries.

At the first Grain From Ukraine summit, which took place on November 26, 2022, $150 million was collected to help African countries.

Sweden announced the allocation of an additional over €8 million to the initiative, Finland — €2 million, and funds for demining agricultural lands in Ukraine.

This year, on November 25, Latvia announced its second contribution to the program in the amount of €50,000.
