Russian forces paint their drones dark to avoid detection by Ukrainian air defenses – Air Force spokesperson

Russian strike drones used to actively attack Ukraine at night are unusually black in color and contain a material that absorbs radar signals.

Russian troops use carbon, which is an absorbing material for radar signals, and color the drones in pitch dark, says the Air Force spokesman Yurii Ihnat.

Ihnat emphasized that despite the possible external similarities, these Shaheds are not a new jet modification of Iranian drones.

Iran has previously unveiled a new Shahed-238 attack drone at the Ashura University of Aerospace Sciences and Technology.

The exhibition featured a jet modification of the Shahed-136, dubbed the Shahed-238, in three versions with different guidance systems.

In addition to the classic version with an autonomous guidance system based on the inertial system and GPS signals, modifications with infrared/optical and, probably, radar guidance systems were also presented.

The version with an infrared/optical guidance system can be used to engage heat-contrast targets, including important military equipment behind enemy lines.

The fuselages of all three new products are uncharacteristically black, which may be due to the use of radio-absorbing materials.
