Lithuania commits €2 mln to Grain from Ukraine initiative by year’s end

As part of the Grain from Ukraine initiative, Lithuania will allocate 2 million euros by the end of the year and is also ready to increase the transit capacity of Baltic ports for Ukrainian exports.

The Prime Minister of Lithuania, Ingrida Šimonytė,  stated this at a joint press conference with the Presidents of Ukraine and Switzerland in Kyiv, according to Ukrinform.

"I am glad to see how much has been achieved in the year since the Grain from Ukraine program started. This demonstrates that Ukraine continues and will continue to feed the whole world. Lithuania joined this initiative last year, and today we are allocating an additional 2 million euros, which will go to Ukraine by the end of this year," Šimonite said.

She also noted that Russia is trying to use the situation in the Black Sea to prevent the export of Ukrainian grain and achieve the lifting of sanctions.

"But it won't work. We are developing alternative ways of grain export, particularly "Solidarity Paths," as well as new grain corridors. We will be ready to increase the transit capacity of our ports for Ukrainian exports, which will create another opportunity – a corridor through the Baltic Sea to export Ukrainian products, despite Russia's attempts," said the Prime Minister of Lithuania.

As reported, as of November 24, 153 civilian vessels have already passed through the Black Sea Humanitarian Corridor, the security of which is ensured by the Naval Forces of Ukraine's armed forces, which transported 5.6 million tons of grain and other cargo.

They discussed ways to enhance Ukraine's defense capabilities, specifically in terms of air defense. The discussion also touched upon President Volodymyr Zelensky's Peace Formula, which received full support from Lithuania. The two government officials also focused on energy security, restoring justice, and retrieving frozen Russian assets.

Following the meeting of the two Prime Ministers, a joint statement was signed, in which, in particular, the importance of creating a special tribunal, which should convict those guilty of war and crimes against Ukraine, was emphasized.

An Agreement on technical and financial cooperation was also signed, which provides for the simplification of the implementation of aid projects for Ukraine from the side of Lithuania, in particular in terms of the supply of various equipment, transfer of technologies, implementation of reforms on Ukraine's path to the European Union.

It is worth noting that since the beginning of the full-scale war, Lithuania's financial assistance to Ukraine has amounted to more than 1 billion euros.
