Ukrainian photos featured on Time’s list of best photos of 2023

The American magazine Time has published a list of the 100 best photos of 2023.

As noted by Time, the list includes 9 photos taken in Ukraine. They illustrate the realities of full-scale war and the struggle against Russian aggression.

Among these photos:

• photo by Maksym Dondiuk for The New Yorker with the hands of a Ukrainian soldier of the 28th brigade, sitting a few hundred meters from the enemy trenches in Bakhmut;

• a shot by Libkos for AP showing Bakhmut from a bird's-eye view of the fiercest fighting with the occupiers;

• a shot by Nicole Tang for the NYT depicting young patients with painted faces at the Ohmatdyt shelter in Kyiv;

• a photo by David Guttenfelder for the NYT of a wounded Ukrainian soldier on a medical stretcher smoking his last cigarette before being taken away by Hospitallers;

• Oleksandr Mahula's photo for AP, showing a family fleeing after the shelling of a residential quarter in Pervomaisk, Kharkiv region;

• a shot by Daniel Cole for AP showing the funeral of the soldier Oleksiy Zavadsky who died in Bakhmut;

• photo of Anna Kudriavtseva for Reuters with a wounded Ukrainian defender in a front-line medical post during Russia's attack on Ukraine;

• photo by Tyler Hicks for The New Yorker with a Russian soldier on a road in the Donetsk region.

It should be noted that the authoritative American magazine Time published the 20 best photo books of 2022, among which was the publication "Odesa" by Olena Yemchuk.

In addition, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and the "spirit of Ukraine" were named "Person of the Year" by the American magazine Time.

Moreover, the Ukrainian LGBT activist and defender of women's rights Olena Shevchenko was included in the list of "Women of the Year" by Time.
