Kyiv Central Railway installs inclined elevators for people with disabilities

New elevators have been implemented at Kyiv Central Railway, allowing passengers with limited mobility to move freely around the station, says the Ukrzaliznytsia press release.

Thousands of people visit Kyiv railway station daily, including passengers traveling for rehabilitation, people with physical disabilities, the elderly, pregnant women, and parents with newborns. All these vulnerable categories require decent ways to move freely around the facility.

What is the solution?

New large elevators have been installed at Kyiv's main railway station. They simplify access from the South Station to the 1st platform, which is the key area for the most popular routes.

The elevators provide easy access to the concourse, which is a passage over the tracks between the Central and South stations. They will be convenient not only for people with disabilities in wheelchairs but also for parents with small children, pregnant women, and the elderly with heavy loads.

How does it work?

Ukrzaliznytsia press service states that the elevators are part of a major station reconstruction. The plans include modernizing the food court, waiting areas, luggage storage, and restrooms. In 2024, the company plans to install several more elevators and gateways for easier access to other platforms.

The renovation is part of First Lady Olena Zelenska's initiative "No Barriers."
