Solutions to win: “Operation Unity” project delivers first 3,000 FPV drones to Ukrainian military

Ukrainian soldiers have received the first 3,000 FPV drones from the "Operation Unity" project. 

Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov announced this on Monday, November 20.

What's the problem?

Drones are an integral and crucial part of Ukrainian weaponry, serving as the eyes of a modern army. They defend positions, gather intelligence, assist in monitoring space, track the enemy's location and actions, and provide support during advances or safe withdrawals.

What's the solution?

The first 3,000 out of 10,000 FPV drones, announced in a joint fundraising campaign by United24, Come Back Alive Fund, and monobank, have already been delivered to military units. According to Fedorov, each drone is equipped with Ukrainian-made ammunition and has been delivered to 19 military units.

These powerful "birds" will now contribute to more effectively targeting enemy positions and equipment.

How does it work?

The drones were distributed to various units, including:

• K2 54th separate mechanized brigade, led by Hero of Ukraine Kyrylo Veres;
• 28th  separate mechanized brigade named after the Knights of the Winter Campaign;
• 80th separate airborne assault brigade of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine;
• 10th separate mountain assault brigade "Edelweiss."

The Armed Forces will receive 10,000 kamikaze drones, purchased thanks to the joint fundraising efforts of UNITED24, Come Back Alive, and monobank.

"And, of course, with your incredible support — ₴235,000,000 in three days. An unbelievable result. When we add, the enemy subtracts," the statement said.

The Come Back Alive Fund noted that in collaboration with the UNITED24 fundraising platform and monobank this summer, they implemented "Operation Unity." In August, thanks to concerned Ukrainians, friends of Ukraine abroad, and businesses, over 235,000,000 hryvnias were raised in three days for 10,000 kamikaze drones.

The Come Back Alive Fund received the first five thousand kamikaze drones from the manufacturer in October.

Models of FPV drones and ammunition for them were coordinated with Ukrainian military officials. The drones were manufactured by a foreign company specializing in drone production.

FPV drones

FPV drones are a type of unmanned aerial vehicle actively used during Russia's war with Ukraine. The main difference between these drones and others is control through special goggles, i.e., a first-person view (FPV). The operator sees the drone's camera video in real-time as if they were inside the UAV, similar to a pilot.
