Over 5,000 female soldiers hold high-ranking positions in Ukrainian military – defense ministry

At present, 5,160 female military servicemen hold managerial positions in Ukraine.

The Military Media Center — the media site of the Defense Forces, coordinated by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, reported this.

In total, 7.3% of Ukraine's armed forces personnel are now women.

These are 62,062 people:

• 43,479 servicewomen,
• and 18,583 civilian employees of Ukraine's armed forces.

In total, women make up 5.3% of the service members of the Ukrainian army, in particular:

• officers — 7,709 (6.6%);
• sergeants — 11,732 (6.6%);
• soldiers — 22,704 (4.4%);
• cadets — 1,334 (18.1%).

About 5,000 female military personnel perform tasks in the area of hostilities.

The Ministry of Defense noted that after the full-scale invasion, the number of women who defended the Motherland, joining the ranks of Ukraine's armed forces and other military formations, increased significantly.

Thus, in 2014, the total number of women in the Armed Forces was 49,926, of which 16,557 were service personnel.

Deputy Minister of Defense Nataliia Kalmykova said that on the battlefield in Ukraine, we have "the largest number of women in recent world history."

"They show themselves not only as good military financiers or doctors but also as brave servicemen who loyally defend their Motherland," Kalmykova said.

According to the Ministry of Defense, 5,160 female military personnel are in managerial positions, including 2,890 female officers and 2,270 non-commissioned officers.

In addition, 13,487 women in Ukraine have the status of combatants.

As previously reported, the number of female service members in the Armed Forces increased by 40 percent compared to 2021.

As of 2018, women held executive positions for an average of 5.2 years, while men held 8.1 years.
