Britain will provide more financial support to Ukraine – UK foreign secretary

Britain's Foreign Secretary David Cameron, on his first trip abroad in his new role, met Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv and also traveled to southern Odesa, the press release says.

The British minister held talks with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba in Kyiv and Odesa on the expansion of the international coalition supporting the "peace formula", new export routes of Ukrainian agricultural products, and providing Ukrainian forces with additional weapons, especially air defense systems.

On the second day of his visit to Ukraine, the Foreign Secretary traveled to the Black Sea port city of Odesa, being the first UK government minister to do so since Russia's full-scale war.

"I am particularly pleased to make my first visit as Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs to Ukraine. I am pleased to be here in Odessa, on the Black Sea coast, where the Ukrainian naval forces have shown significant progress in overcoming the attacks of the Russian Federation and strengthening control over this important sea route, "Cameron said.

The British Foreign Minister added that a new tool was presented to improve ship insurance on such a Black Sea route.

"This step is of great importance for Ukraine to receive profits from exports and its economic recovery," the foreign official said.

Cameron also announced assistance to Ukrainians who were directly affected by the Russian aggression, such as providing basic winter supplies and supporting people evacuated from frontline areas.

The UK allocates 10 million pounds to the Red Cross Society of Ukraine (URCS) to provide medical supplies to communities directly affected by Russian aggression and to support the URCS.

Britain will also provide more than 7 million pounds to a consortium led by the international non-profit organization Nonviolent Peaceforce, which supports volunteer organizations delivering humanitarian aid to dangerous locations on the frontline.

The UK also allocates an additional 1.4 million pounds for the ongoing rescue work of the Mercy Corps in Ukraine.
