Explosions rock Kursk region: Russian authorities claim local plant was hit by “NATO projectiles”

Early Thursday morning on November 9, a facility in the Russian city of Sudzha, Kursk region, experienced an attack.

The strike caused damage to certain parts of the plant, Rubryka reports, citing Kursk region Governor Roman Starovoit.

Officials in Russia and propagandists claim that the supposed attack used "NATO cluster munitions."

"A drone from the Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked the oil plant in Sudzha. Three cluster munitions were dropped," said a Russian official.

According to the local governor, two projectiles damaged production barrels and an underground storage area at the oil plant in Sudzha.

It's also mentioned that a third projectile supposedly did not detonate. Bomb disposal experts arrived at the site to handle the situation. Nobody was injured in the incident.

The governor shared photos allegedly displaying debris and fragments of "NATO projectiles" in the Kursk region.

Explosions in Kursk region

Explosions and incidents like these have become increasingly reported across various regions of Russia in recent months. They include alleged drone attacks, drone strikes, fires, and other emergencies, including in the Kursk region.

Among the recent incidents, there was a supposed "attempted drone attack" on October 26 at the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant. The Russian side claimed an explosion near a nuclear waste storage facility and supposed shelling a few days prior, resulting in a power outage in the city of Tyotkino. A similar event on October 5 affected multiple areas in the Kursk region due to "drone attacks on infrastructure facilities."

There were reports that on the night of October 18, the Ukrainian Security Service attacked a military camp of the Russian forces near the "Khalino" airfield in the Kursk region, recording at least 18 drone strikes.

The Ukrainian Security Service successfully conducted a special operation in the Russian Kursk region on the night of September 29, causing another blackout for the Russians. Specifically, an electric substation connected to critical military facilities was targeted.
