United to win: Denmark unveils $42.9 mln aid package targeted at aiding Mykolaiv region

Oleksandr Kubrakov, Deputy Prime Minister for the Reconstruction of Ukraine, held the third meeting of the Steering Committee of the Mykolaiv – Mykolaiv region – Denmark partnership. At the meeting, the participants approved a new package of aid to Ukraine for $42.9 million — with a focus on aid to Mykolaiv and the Mykolaiv region.

What is the problem?

Denmark took a leading role in the reconstruction of Mykolaiv. On March 7, a Memorandum was concluded on establishing a partnership between Denmark, Mykolaiv, and Mykolaiv region. It was not only about restoring housing but also jobs that would encourage local residents to return home.

In order to coordinate actions, a Steering Committee was created at the level of Vice Prime Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov and Minister of International Development Dan Jørgensen.

What is the solution?

Cooperation is focused on eight areas: infrastructure, effective governance, maritime industry, transport, urban planning, development of small and medium-sized businesses, green transition, youth, and culture.

During the third meeting of the Steering Committee, a new aid package was approved.

"We approved a new aid package for Ukraine worth 42.9 million dollars, focusing mainly on Mykolaiv and the region. It is important to continue the region's recovery, to strengthen its preparation for winter. The partnership between Ukraine and Denmark in reconstructing the Mykolaiv region is one of the vivid examples of interstate mutual understanding, quick decision-making, and involvement in the process. Together, we built a model under which both state structures and business can participate in reconstruction," Oleksandr Kubrakov noted.

How does it work?

The aid package included, among other things, the purchase and installation of equipment for heat supply, water supply, centralized heating, and support for the reconstruction of critical social infrastructure and civil institutions in the region.
