Philatelic exhibition in Japan showcases Ukrainian postage stamps
Ukrainian postage stamps were presented in Tokyo at the All-Japan Philatelic Exhibition JAPEX2023.
Ukrposhta [Ukraine's national postal operator – ed.] reports this on Facebook.
"These days – from November 3 to 5 – an important exhibition in the postal world, JAPEX2023, under the general name "Peaceful days with philately" is being held in Tokyo.
As part of the event, organized by the Japan Philatelic Association, with the assistance of the Embassy of Ukraine in Japan and Ukrposhta, a special exhibition of "Ukrainian Stamps" is being held, the message reads.
Ukrposhta noted that unique Ukrainian postage stamps from private collections of Japanese philatelists are presented at the exhibition.
In particular, there are stands dedicated to:
- the first wartime stamp, "Russian warship, go!…,"
- Ukrainian embroidery,
- Kyiv Rus,
- stamps of the Ukrainian People's Republic,
- famine in Ukraine in 1921-1923,
- Kyiv region.
There is also a separate booth available for visitors to buy Ukrainian postage stamps and exchange them for "Ukrainian folk clothing" stamps that Ukrposhta uniquely created.
Ukrposhta noted that before this event, Japan Post issued two commemorative stamps – one dedicated to Ukraine: on a blue background, a carrier pigeon delivers a message to its destination. The pigeon's wings are decorated with a traditional Ukrainian ornament, and the body has the inscription Ukraine.⠀
"We couldn't leave you without a part of this large-scale event, so tomorrow at 9 o'clock in our postal market, a set of 3 envelopes with redemption with a souvenir stamp of Ukrposhta "JAPEX2023″ will be sold. Ukrposhta" directly from Japan. The number of envelopes with redemption is limited!" Ukrposhta noted.
For reference:
"Japan Stamp Exhibition" is the largest exhibition of Japanese stamps, first held in 1966 and has been held annually since then.
As Rubryka reported, the general director of the joint-stock company "Ukrposhta" Ihor Smilyanskyi announced the release of a stamp in the "Heroic Professions" series dedicated to the employees of Ukrzaliznytsia [Ukraine's national railway – ed.].
Ukrposhta also launched a new stamp dedicated to utility workers who restore critical infrastructure after Russian missile attacks.
In addition, Ukrposhta issued the "Cross of Combat Merit" stamp. This is the first stamp during a full-scale war dedicated to a military award.
