Kyiv volunteers start free course on traffic rules
Ukrainian volunteers from the Honcharenko Center started a free traffic rule learning course for all novices under the guidance of police officers in Kyiv.
What is the problem?
In July this year, the Ukrainian parliament approved the draft law on studying the driving theory without attending driving school to receive a license.
Starting from October 29, a driver's license candidate will be able to choose how to learn traffic rules, the basics of vehicle structure, and first aid on their own or in a driving school. The first exam at the internal ministry service center follows the theoretical driver training module.
Driving schools provide 64 hours of lectures for this module, and without a certificate of completion, driver candidates are not yet eligible to take the theoretical exam at MIA service centers.
The lack of qualified teachers sometimes makes it difficult to learn the rules and prepare for the exam. At the same time, private driving schools continue to enroll in traffic rules, but the cost of such classes starts at 4,000 hryvnias ($105)
What is the solution?
To help Ukrainians master the theory of traffic rules and prepare for the exam, Kyiv volunteers from the Honcharenko Center launched a new course. Students will not only save their own money but also get practical advice and learn the rules and signs faster.
We are all used to the idea that both theory and practice are the responsibility of a driving school. This was the case, but in July, Ukrainians were given the opportunity to learn the theory on their own. And here, many people have a completely logical stupor: will I be able to learn everything without a teacher?
Am I interpreting this or that rule correctly? This course was created precisely to ensure that future drivers go to the exam with confidence and pass it on the first try, says Olha Chaika, director of the Honcharenko Center Kyiv.
How does it work?
Inspectors from the Kyiv Patrol Police Department are leading the course to help students not only master the traffic rules but also get rid of their fears of the exam and prejudices about the "impossibility" of passing the exam on their own.
Unfortunately, there are still many stereotypes about the complexity of the tests, "too tricky" questions and the insidiousness of the testing system. These are all fabrications. Myths. Qualified teachers will help us dispel them. You must admit that learning the theory on your own and learning it together with experts is a significant difference.
I think this will give our students confidence and help them to control their emotions during the exam and prove that there is nothing wrong with it, Olha Chaika told Rubryka.
