Ukrainian Railways evacuated 4 million refugees from warzone – Zelensky
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen took part in the celebrations in Kyiv on the occasion of the Railway Workers' Day.
During his speech, Zelensky reminded that Ukrainian Railways helped evacuate 4 million people from the war zone.
Our railways, all of you, you have been able to transport more than 120 million tons of cargo since the beginning of this year, including globally important cargo such as food. And I am grateful to every country and the European Union for supporting the railways, the Head of State said.
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukrainian railroaders have been able to build new vital routes that Ukraine has needed for a while with Poland and Moldova.
Our railroad is a guarantee that the regions of Ukraine, our cities, our villages in different parts of our country, even under the shelling of Russian terrorists, are united in one space of life with the necessary meanings, with the necessary goods.
Russian hostilities killed 350 workers, so the audience observed a minute of silence in their memory.
Since the very beginning of the Russian war against Ukraine, you have been working continuously in such difficult conditions. You help your fellow Ukrainians find asylum in the European Union and return home again.
You transport grain and vital products from Ukraine and around the world.
And you bind your country and your people together. You maintain a lifeline, and I can witness this because I have been coming to Kyiv by train for 6 times now, and I can say that this train has become a legend, von der Leyen said in her speech.
