Kyiv region restores three multi-storey buildings and builds shelter for 500 citizens in liberated Buzova
Kyiv region restores three high-rise buildings in the center of Buzova village, which was a peaceful place for a quiet life before the full-scale war.
What is the problem?
In early March 2022, Russian invaders shot at civilian apartments with tanks and artillery, leaving many residents homeless.
Before that, about 200 people lived in each of these houses. One of them is Valerii Zinevych, who lived in one of the five-story buildings for nine years.
In the first days of war we lived in our apartments, but when the shelling started in early March, everyone went down to the basements. We literally went from apartment to apartment and warned people to hide.
By March 4, we had electricity, water, gas, and heat. And the next day, the Russians targeted three five-story buildings.
Two houses sustained significant damage, but not critical. The roof was partially destroyed on one house, and partially burnt out on the other.
But the situation with the third house was critical: it was hit by both artillery and tanks.
Since it is a panel house, it literally folded. The panels from the fifth floor to the basement were knocked down. On the same day, the communications to all the houses were destroyed, said the chairman of the local community Ihor Tkachuk.
What is the solution?
Buzova started restoring the houses in on its own budget right after the liberation. In early summer, the first reconstruction work began at the expense of local and state budgets.
How does it work?
One of the buildings all communications were restored within a month. There were basic living conditions in some apartments, so some people came back during the construction work and now stay in their homes.
Currently, one of these three houses is 95% restored, having a few details left, such as painting and communications.
Another house is being rebuilt under the UNITED24 program, which began in early 2023 and is now expected to be completed in the first half of 2024.
The third house where Valerii lived had to be rebuilt almost from scratch.
The man and his neighbors live in a modular town built by Polish partners, and every day they can watch their house being rebuilt brick by brick.
This house was included in the state reconstruction program.
We have updated the design project and modernized the house to meet the realities of modern times, added the head of the department.
Kyiv region also builds a shelter for 500 people to avoid casualties in missile attacks.
The shelter will have all the amenities for a comfortable stay: recreation areas, a place for cooking, etc. We plan to complete this reconstruction by the end of 2024. And people who are waiting will be able to live at home again, Tkachuk emphasized.
