New modular primary care clinics were set in the villages of Lyptsi and Kamianka in the northeastern Kharkiv region

The project within the partnership of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the World Health Organization, provides patients with access to medical care, despite the full-scale war, Rubryka reports.

What is the problem?

Modular clinics are being installed in the mostwar-affected regions, where primary medical care facilities were significantly damaged or destroyed by the Russian army.

"The enemy continues to systematically destroy Ukrainian medical facilities, including hospitals, maternity hospitals, clinics, dispensaries, and more. Over 19 months of war, Russia damaged 1,449 medical facilities and completely destroyed another 190. This shows deliberate terror against all Ukrainians," says First Deputy Minister of Health Serhii Dubrov. "Despite systemic challenges and constant Russian attacks, together with our partners, we manage to restore medical facilities and ensure full patient access to medical care. The construction of new modular clinics will enable residents to receive high-quality medical services, as well as quickly solve the problem in the region."

What is the solution?

Modular clinics are prefabricated medical units that can be quickly installed on site.

"Together with the Ministry of Health, we are providing the infrastructure where doctors and nurses can provide essential primary care services, especially for patients with chronic conditions in areas where the needs are highest," said Jarno Habikht, WHO representative in Ukraine. "We support communities on the front lines and help address the challenge of accessing vital primary care and medicines. This joint project is an important step in restoring services."

The medical facility with five doctors in the village of Lyptsi will serve the community of about 6,700 people, Currently, 45 patients per day will be able to receive medical care in the clinic.

How does it work?

Mobile teams consisting of a doctor and a nurse will work in the modular clinic in the village of Kamianka. Visits of narrow specialists, including a cardiologist, gynecologist, surgeon, are planned as needed. A nurse will be on duty at the clinic all the time. 20-30 patients per day will be able to receive medical assistance.

Mobile clinics are assembled from a different number of ready-made modules depending on the required number of rooms for patients. These designs can be assembled and installed within 10 to 14 days.

All modular clinics established by WHO are ready to work during blackout. They are equipped with generators for uninterrupted power supply and fans that maintain an optimal environment in the medical facility.

Reference: Modular clinics are one of WHO's response and recovery projects in Ukraine, which offers an immediate and long-term solution to an acute problem. Clinics are able to replace damaged hospitals for up to 10 years.

In total, eight modular primary care clinics are now fully operational in the war-battered Kherson, Kharkiv and Sumy regions.
