Zhytomyr volleyball club makes historic debut in Eurocup competition
The "Zhytychi-Polyssia" volleyball club from Zhytomyr, Ukraine, will participate in the second most esteemed tournament – the European Volleyball Confederation Cup (ECV) – this coming October-November. It will be the team's first time competing in an international event since its inception.
Since it is forbidden to host international matches in Ukraine, nominally, the home match of "Zhytychi-Polyssia" VC will be played on October 26 at 21:00 in Rzeszów. The opponent will be the Serbian team, this year's winner of the Super Cup of Serbia – Vojvodina.
The club is grateful to the European Volleyball Confederation, the Volleyball Federation of Ukraine, the Polish Volleyball Federation, the Rzeszów City Hall, the management of the RCWS Podpromie RZESZÓW sports arena (Rzeszów), and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine for their support in participating in international competitions.
The return match will take place on November 1 at 19:00 in the Serbian city of Novi Sad.
"Our team was established in 2017. Over the past six years, we have experienced the formation and growth stages. We started as a team in the first league and are now competing in the highest division. This year, we are honored to represent our club, Zhytomyr region, and Ukraine in Europe. We have been training intensively for this opportunity. Our team will compete in the European Cups with a strengthened lineup that includes players from Serbia and Montenegro. We are all excited about our first participation at this level of competition and will do everything possible to win. We are grateful to our defenders who have made it possible for us to play in Ukraine and abroad. In addition to sports victories, the most desired victory will soon await us all," said Serhiy Tereykovskiy, head coach of the Zhytychi-Polyssia VC.
The investment company BGV Group Management, based in Ukraine, served as the primary partner for the Ukrainian volleyball club.
