Germany to provide Ukraine with €1.4 bln winter package of aid – Ukraine's PM

Ukraine expects an additional 1.4 billion euros from Germany in a new "winter package" of aid, which will include, particularly, the strengthening of air defense.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, announced this.

"Germany is preparing a winter aid package for Ukraine worth 1.4 billion euros, including air defense equipment in particular. I am grateful to Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the entire German people for their support!" Shmyhal wrote on the X social network.

It is worth noting that Shmyhal is participating in the German-Ukrainian business forum in Berlin.

One of the agreements announced during the forum was the creation of a joint venture between JSC "Ukrainian Defense Industry" and the German defense concern Rheinmetall, which will deal with the maintenance and repair of Western equipment and the localization of the production of leading models of the German concern's equipment.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz noted at the opening of the 6th German-Ukrainian Economic Forum in Berlin that Germany has provided Ukraine with almost 24 billion euros of aid since the beginning of the full-scale war.

"Civil and military aid from Germany since the beginning of the war has reached 24 billion euros," Scholz informed and reminded that according to this indicator, Germany is the second partner supporting Ukraine after the USA.

According to him, Germany is currently preparing a winter package, the main task of which is to create a "protective shield" given the obvious plans of the Russian Federation to continue bombing energy and other infrastructure, "to use the cold as a weapon against the civilian population." The package is estimated at 1.4 billion euros and includes, among others, air defense systems Patriot, Iris-T6, Gepard, etc.

The head of the government noted that last week, the energy system support package in the amount of EUR 80 million was also approved.
