Reuters: European Commission to give positive evaluation of Ukraine's EU membership progress but with potentially more conditions
On November 8, the European Commission will provide an assessment of Ukraine's progress towards EU membership in its annual report.
Most likely, it will be positive, but additional conditions may be put forward to Kyiv, Reuters reports.
According to the publication, additional conditions may apply to fighting corruption and the rights of national minorities. The latter can be nominated at the initiative of Hungary.
Earlier, the Venice Commission published an opinion on the Law of Ukraine "On National Minorities (Communities)," in which it advised to review or clarify a number of provisions.
The commission recommended canceling the language quotas stipulated by the laws on the state language and "On media."
The final decision on the start of negotiations on Ukraine's membership in the EU can be made as early as December 14-15 at the summit of EU leaders.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that for Ukraine, the start of membership negotiations already this year is "a top priority."
"Ukraine has moved as quickly as possible through the implementation of the seven recommendations of the European Commission, which were given to enable a political solution already this year to open membership negotiations," he said.
What we know about Ukraine's accession to the EU
In July, in Vilnius, President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, the possibility of starting negotiations on Ukraine's membership in the EU at the end of the year.
Earlier, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen stated that, if Ukraine maintains the current pace of reforms, it will be able to quickly achieve success and join the European Union.
As Rubryka reporred, on the 500th day of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Ursula von der Leyen assured that the EU would continue to support Kyiv.
