Kyiv rehabilitation center RECOVERY opens second department to provide treatment to 600 soldiers

The rehabilitation center for wounded Ukrainian soldiers, RECOVERY, in Kyiv opened a second department.

From now on, more than 600 defenders will be rehabilitated here every year, Rubryka reports, referring to the RECOVERY website.

What is the problem?

The RECOVERY project aims to develop rehabilitation in the country, which has been in a full-scale war since 2022. The initiative is set to create a national network of special centers for seriously wounded soldiers.

The founder of the RECOVERY project, Viktor Pinchuk, says that Ukrainians understand that this war will last a long time and, unfortunately, the number of patients will increase and soldiers will need rehabilitation. 

Specialists of the national RECOVERY network have already provided assistance to more than 3,500 patients this year. In 2024, the founders announced an increase in the national network's capacity by at least two times.

"Unfortunately, there are more heroes in need of rehabilitation than there are beds, more than there are centers. That is why we have planned a powerful program for next year, and if we carry it out fully, we will help up to 20,000 soldiers undergo rehabilitation yearly," says Viktor Pinchuk.

What is the solution?

The Kyiv RECOVERY center was launched at the end of May 2023. Since then, 150 Ukrainian servicemen have recovered here thanks to the multidisciplinary rehabilitation team of specialists and state-of-the-art equipment. 

With the opening of the second department, the number of beds in the center has been increased from 30 to 50, allowing more injured people to be treated.

How does it work?

The new department is built with barrier-free accessibility — there are spacious corridors with wide doorways and handrails and sanitary and hygienic rooms that accommodate people in wheelchairs.

All wards are equipped with multifunctional beds with an electric drive and appropriate furniture for the comfortable stay of patients with reduced mobility. The center installed an additional ceiling rail lift in the corridor to train people with neurological and orthopedic disorders and help them recover their gait skills.

The second department of the Kyiv center also houses a 24-hour nursing post, a procedure room, a resident's room, offices for psychological support, a speech therapist, and the head of the department.

RECOVERY innovative rehabilitation centers for soldiers are already operating in Lviv, Vinnytsia, Kyiv, Odesa (two facilities), and Dnipro (two facilities).
