Volunteers open mobile library in liberated towns of Kherson region

Benefactors opened a mobile library in Oleksandrivka in the southern Kherson region

The house has shelves with books, a sofa, and a desk, which anyone in the village can use, Rubryka reports, referring to the Kherson regional administration.

What is the problem?

During the Russian invasion of 2022, the village of Oleksandrivka was on the battlefront between the Ukrainian and Russian forces. Fighting for the village continued throughout April last year. As of mid-May 2022, the village has almost no houses after hostilities. Only the foundations of individual blocks remained as a reminder of cruel Russian attacks. Only 15 residential buildings survived after the Russian shelling, and the social infrastructure was completely destroyed.

What is the solution?

Children in the town were left without a school, books, and the Internet. The benefactors created a modular library in the settlement as a temporary solution for the locals to socialize, educate themselves, and rest.

Local children can feel safe in this space, read books, and socialize.

How does it work?

The mobile home has shelves with books, a sofa, and a desk. Soon, the Internet will be connected here so that children can study remotely.

Books for the library were donated by people from all over Ukraine. You can find deep novels, light stories, classics, and poetry on the shelves.

Rubryka reported that according to the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, 14,351 libraries functioned in Ukraine before the full-scale war.

As of the end of June 2023, their number decreased by 2,560 establishments and currently stands at 11,791.
