The chair of the Ukrainian parliament, Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, announced that Ukraine was convening the Crimea Platform Parliamentary Summit for the second time, Rubryka reports. The first was held last year in Zagreb, Croatia.
"The number of participating parliaments proves one thing — the interest is not fading away, as they try to say, but on the contrary is playing out. This time, almost 70 parliaments and parliamentary assemblies are represented here. This is a serious number," Stefanchuk said.
According to the Verkhovna Rada chair, this year's summit in Prague will be entirely devoted to Ukrainian issues. The main topics are war, Crimea, and security architecture.
The speaker said that thanks to inter-parliamentary diplomacy, it was possible to attract representatives of African and Latin American parliaments to the summit.
He noted the importance of the Global South represented at the summit because Russia has traditionally maintained permanent ties with southern countries and spread untruthful information about its war against Ukraine.
Ukraine will have the opportunity to counter Russian propaganda, influence the African and Latin nations, and explain the situation.
Crimea Platform Summit
The Crimea Platform is an initiative of the Ukrainian authorities to bring the issue of de-occupation of the Crimean peninsula to the front of the international agenda.
The first summit took place in 2021 when a joint declaration of the Crimea Platform participants was adopted. Representatives of 43 countries took part in the meeting.
The platform's main goal is to consolidate international efforts to de-occupy Crimea, which has been under Russian occupation since 2014, protect the rights and freedoms of the population of the peninsula, as well as strengthen security in Europe and at the global level.
