The Kyiv region presenteda a "Miracle Town" for elderly people who lost their homes due to Russia's full-scale war, authorities report.

What is the problem?

The town of Makariv, located next to Kyiv, was under Russian occupation for nearly a month.

The village suffered major destruction and casualties. Thousands of Ukrainians had to leave their homes to escape the occupation or the attacks.

Hundreds of elderly people were left homeless and forced to move to safer regions.

What is the solution?

A "Miracle Town" was opened in Makariv community for the most vulnerable elderly people from among the internally displaced persons affected by the war.

Such a large-scale project became possible thanks to Ukraine's cooperation with American donor Mr. Hansen, the main funder of the "To Ukraine with Love" Foundation.Чудо-містечко, Макарів Photo: Vadym Tokar/Makariv community

How does it work?

The town opened its doors for the first time to people from the south and east, where settlements are prone to constant shelling.

All the accommodation is free and convenient for newcomers.

The town has a clubhouse, a medical center and a shelter. There will be hairdresser's, dentist's and other offices.

At this stage, the town can accommodate about 130 people in 100 apartments at a time.

The first 67 people have already been housed and will move into 48 apartments. The rest will be settled by the end of 2023.

The apartments are modernly renovated, fully furnished, equipped with everything necessary for comfortable living and have access to a private terrace.

The "Miracle Town" means exactly what we would like to do for you, to fulfill a dream of yours, to return what was so ruthlessly and cruelly stolen from you and give you a sense of a real miracle, said Loy Hansen.
