Ukrainian forces establish positions on left bank of Kherson region – ISW
Ukrainian forces continued larger-than-usual ground operations on the Kherson region's left (eastern) bank and consolidated their positions in the village of Krynky.
The confirmed geolocated footage published on October 19 indicates that Ukrainian forces advanced into northeastern Krynky (27km east of Kherson City and 2km from the Dnipro River).
Russian milbloggers claimed that Ukrainian troops are establishing a foothold near Krynky and continue to maintain their presence near the Antoniv roadway and railway bridges.
A prominent Russian milblogger claimed that Ukrainian forces temporarily advanced further into Krynky up to the Kozachi Laheri-Krynky-Korsunka road before Russian airstrikes pushed Ukrainian troops back to the northern outskirts of the settlement.
Another blogger claimed that fighting is ongoing near Pishchanivka (14km east of Kherson and 4km from the Dnipro River) and that a Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance group is operating on the southern outskirts of the settlement.
Citing the latest AFU GenStaff update, Russian troops conducted an air strike on the village, indicating Ukraine's presence nearby.
However, ISW has not observed any other visual confirmation of Ukrainian forces maintaining positions in east bank settlements other than Krynky.
As for Avdiivka, the first Russian offensive operation on October 10 led to significant losses of Russian equipment. The fact that Russian troops regrouped and again launched an offensive indicates their beliefs in capturing Avdiivka or poor command management.
Geolocation footage published on October 20 shows that Russian troops made little progress west of Krasnogorivka (5 km north of Avdiivka).
The Ukrainian General Staff reported that defense forces repelled Russian attacks near Avdiivka, Novokalynove, Stepne, and Pervomaiske (11 km southwest of Avdeevka). Ukrainian troops damaged and destroyed almost 50 Russian tanks and more than 100 armored vehicles over the past day.
