Russian attempts to take Avdiivka continue despite decreased assault activity
Russian troops' activity in the Avdiivka area in the Donetsk region has somewhat decreased. Still, the enemy does not abandon its intentions to capture the city, and the fighting continues.
Colonel Oleksandr Shtupun, the United Press Center of the Defense Forces of the Tavria Region spokesman, announced this on the telethon "Yedyni Novyny."
"In the Avdiivka direction, the enemy's activity has decreased somewhat, but it continues to move forward. The enemy does not stop trying to take Avdiivka. Our soldiers there are firmly holding the defense," said the soldier.
As the spokesman noted, the enemy launched one missile and four air strikes on the Tavria front over the past day.
"Most of them are guided aerial bombs, and they are precisely positioned along the Avdiivka front," he noted.
In addition, he reported that the offensive actions of the occupiers in the areas of Novokalynovo, Stepovo, and Pervomaisky were unsuccessful during the past day.
The enemy also conducted assaults near Mariinka and Novomykhailivka without success. About 20 attacks were repelled there.
"Over the past 24 hours, there have been 53 combat clashes on the Tavria front and the enemy has launched 685 artillery barrages; Ukraine's Defense Forces have destroyed 11 tanks and 29 armored fighting vehicles, and about 80% of this is in Donetsk region," the colonel said.
Also, according to Shtupun, the Russian occupiers tried to restore the position on the Shakhtarsky and Zaporizhzhia fronts. But the attempts of the Russians were unsuccessful.
Attacks were repelled there in the Zolota Niva, Staromayorsky, Poltavka, and Robotyne districts. Near Robotyne, the enemy tries to restore the lost position, but without success.
The spokesman of the joint press center of the Defense Forces of the Tavria front also said that the artillery of Ukraine's armed forces performed 1,244 fire missions during the day.
He added that the total losses of the enemy on the last day amounted to 496 people, two occupiers surrendered, and 50 units of military equipment were destroyed.
For reference:
In general, on October 20, the Defense Forces eliminated almost 800 more invaders, so the total losses of Russian troops since the beginning of the full-scale war workforce amounted to about 293 thousand soldiers. The Russians suffered the most significant losses on the Avdiivka front.
Following the reported "calm period," Avdiivka has experienced renewed aggression since yesterday. The Russian invaders persist in their attempts to seize the city.
Due to the aggravation of the situation on the front line around Avdiivka, the supply of humanitarian aid to the city is currently suspended. Still, the reserves will be enough for three months.
According to ISW military analysts, the first Russian offensive operation in the Avdiivka area on October 10 resulted in significant losses of Russian equipment. However, the Russian troops regrouped and started the offensive again.
On October 19, the Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine's armed forces, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, met with the command of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, which are fighting with Russian troops in the Avdiivka region. They discussed the sequence of the following actions.
