Helping to Protect Nature: Criminal Case Opened in Lviv Region Following Rubryka's Publication
The Lviv Region Police Will Now Investigate Two Crimes That Disrupted River Ecosystems, Following the Catalyst of Our Article.
This information was shared with Rubryka by Anatolii Pavelko, an ecologist and legal advisor with the NGO Environment People Law.
The case concerns a piece published by Rubryka in August this year, addressing the causes of river disappearance in the Lviv region. The article highlights the negative impact of the agricultural sector on rivers.
Anatolii Pavelko used real examples to demonstrate how the violation of legislative norms affects river ecosystems.
"I was summoned yesterday to the Lviv branch of the National Police as a witness. They saw the publication in Rubryka and initiated proceedings regarding unlawful actions involving land plots near rivers, based on the visit we made there together. They read the publication themselves, and it serves as the first piece of evidence of the offense," Pavelko explained.
Following this, once the police identified the exact locations of the land plots described in the article, the case was transferred to the Stryi division.
Now, the Stryi division of the National Police has opened a criminal case for violations of land legislation—specifically, illegal construction of hydraulic structures and unauthorized use of land plots.
According to Anatolii Pavelko, for now, the photos and information in the article serve as the "primary evidence" of the offense.
