Russian forces suffer five times more losses in equipment in their Avdiivka offensive than Ukrainian soldiers

Since last week, when the Russian army began its offensive on the eastern city of Avdiivka, Russian losses in military equipment have been five times greater than Ukraine's. 

During the six days of the offensive, the Russian occupying forces lost at least 118 equipment units against the Ukrainian forces' 25, the Russian publication "Agentstvo" reports, citing the data of the OSINT project Oryx.

Analysts say the Russian forces lost 27 tanks, 33 infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs), and eight armored personnel carriers (APCs) during the offensive. As calculated by Oryx, the Armed Forces of Ukraine lost four tanks, four IFVs, and two APCs in the period.

Rubryka reported that the Ukrainian soldiers destroyed 14 Russian tanks, 20 armored vehicles, and 26 artillery systems in the past day.

What we know about Russian offensive near Avdiivka

The Russian army launched a large-scale offensive in the Avdiiivka area on the morning of October 10.

In recent days, the Russians have significantly intensified their offensive near Avdiivka. Bakhmut and the Kupiansk-Lyman axis remain the epicenter of the fighting.

The Ukrainian military reported that Russians did not consider Avdiivka as a landmark city before, but amid their failures at the front, they decided to win at least some kind of victory.

"It is important for them to capture Avdiivka because this is the only chance at the moment where they can show at least some kind of victory. They have no other option," Oleksandr Shtupun, a spokesperson for Ukraine's southern group of forces, said.

On October 13, Russia moved additional brigades to Avdiivka. The next day, there were no missile strikes in Avdiivka for the first time after the escalation, but fierce battles on Ukrainian positions and active Russian assaults continued for the fifth day.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine also reported that Russian attacks on Avdiivka persist, but the Russian pressure has significantly decreased. According to ISW analysts, the Russian offensive has failed.
