Canada sends winter military equipment worth $19 mln to Ukraine

Canada has allocated a new defense aid package to Ukraine for its winter campaign on the frontline, says Defense Minister Bill Blair.

The aid package includes winter clothes, military uniforms for 2,000 female soldiers, and different ammunition.

Ukrainians are fighting valiantly on the frontlines against Russia's illegal and unprovoked war. Today's package of comprehensive military aid will ensure that Ukraine has what it needs to continue its battle for freedom, territorial integrity, and democracy. To our Ukrainian friends –– Canada's support is unwavering, Bill Blair said.

The winter aid support includes clothing and equipment, particularly boots, thermal layers, and winter sleeping bags, patterned military uniforms for 2,000 female soldiers, which will be manufactured in Canada.

The state will provide Ukraine with 2,000 155 mm shells, 2,260 gas masks, 277,000 kg of aircraft bombs and fuses, various 76 mm ammunition for the navy, smoke ammunition, and over 2,000 smoke ammunition for mortars.

The Minister also noted that the previously announced donations of almost 8,000 rounds of 155mm ammunition, 10,000 rounds of 105mm artillery rounds, and approximately 2 million rounds of 7.62mm small arms ammunition were delivered last week.

The total amount of various assistance provided by Canada to Ukraine amounted to $8 billion. The state has taken in more than 170,000 Ukrainian refugees and is actively training Ukrainian troops in Poland, the UK and Latvia.

On September 22, Canada announced long-term assistance to Ukraine worth $482 million for the next three years. All funds will be used to manufacture armored vehicles.
