Hamas attack on Israel will benefit Russian aggression against Ukraine – Polish President
The current clash between the Hamas terrorist group and Israel works in Russia's favor by distracting international attention from Moscow's aggression in Ukraine and may result in new migration pressures on Europe, Poland's President Andrzej Duda says.
Duda added that there is a lot of speculation and disinformation around this topic, and Russia and Iran are most often mentioned in this context.
The state's leader noted that Poland must first take care of its own interests. The most important task for today, he said, is to preserve the lives and health of Polish citizens in the combat zone, in particular through their evacuation by air.
We will likely have another wave of migrants from the Middle East, which will hit Europe… Our security, protection of Poland's borders of course, also the borders of the European Union and the Schengen zone, becomes even more important.
Poland has sheltered over a million Ukrainian refugees during the full-scale war. But it has flatly rejected any EU mechanisms that would require it to take in a share of the irregular migrants entering the bloc from other directions.
HAMAS attack on Israel
On October 7, early in the morning, dozens of Hamas militants infiltrated Israel, taking control of several communities in the southern state.
In addition, "in solidarity" with the Palestinians, Lebanese terrorist enclave Hezbollah said it had fired rockets and mortars at Israel, and the IDF responded with artillery and drone strikes.
As of October 8, over 200 people were killed, and thousands are considered wounded. Two Ukrainian citizens are among the casualties.
