United to win: American NGO sends $1 mln worth of windows to aid reconstruction in Kyiv region
The war-battered Kyiv region will receive windows for another $1 million to install them in buildings damaged in hostilities.
The donation comes from the American non-profit organization Global Empowerment Mission (GEM), Ruslan Kravchenko, the head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, announced following a meeting with GEM founder Michael Capponi, Rubryka reports.
What is the problem?
As of May last year, the damage due to the Russian invasion was documented in 46 out of 69 territorial communities in the Kyiv region. More than 4,500 private and multi-story residential buildings were reportedly damaged, with the most devastation in the Bucha, Irpin, Hostomel, Borodianka, Makariv, Velyka Dymerka, and Piskivka territorial communities.
Many residents of the Kyiv region remain displaced across the country because they cannot return home to damaged housing.
What is the solution?
The American non-profit organization Global Empowerment Mission will provide an additional $1 million to replace windows in buildings damaged by hostilities.
"I am grateful to the entire GEM team for their extraordinary support in restoring the Kyiv region," Kravchenko said. "GEM has not only fulfilled but also exceeded its promise."
How does it work?
The head of the region said almost 7,000 new windows worth $1,360,000 have been installed in the region.
According to the military administration, windows were replaced at 430 buildings in Irpin, Hostomel, Sofia Borshchahivka, and towns of the Vyshhorod district. This figure includes private and multi-apartment buildings, schools, kindergartens, and clinics — the buildings that suffered the most due to Russian military aggression.
Kravchenko reported that most purchased windows were installed in Irpon — almost 2,300.
Together with the GEM founder, the head of the region visited one of the sites — the Irpin residential complex "Synergia." Thanks to the fund, almost 30% of the windows were in nine apartment buildings.
"Volumes are colossal!" the head of the region said.
Governor Kravchenko said that thanks to the help of international partners, the authorities could significantly save on funding and free up financial resources for other recovery projects.
"I am grateful to the GEM team and personally to Mr. Capponi for the enormous support in the reconstruction of our region. Thank you for the fact that your good deeds do not cease," the head of the region said.
Rubryka reported that the United24 fundraising platform and the LUN real estate company created an interactive map to monitor the reconstruction of 18 destroyed buildings in the Kyiv region.
