Nobel laureate in physics to donate prize money to Ukrainian charity

The Hungarian scientist Ferenc Krausz, awardee of the Nobel Prize in Physics said he plans to donate the prize money to a charity he founded last year to help Ukraine, Telex.hu reports.

This year's Nobel award amounts to over $995,000, but the physics prize was divided among three scientists, each of whom received the same amount.

Krausz shared the prize with two fellow scientists Pierre Agostini and Anne L'Huillier, for their research into attosecond physics, whose results are now used in many fields, including medicine and laser research.

The day he won the Nobel Prize, Krauz said he would continue to donate any prize money he won to Science4People, an organization he set up in response to Russia's full-scale war in Ukraine.

The scientist decided to support projects of local communities in Ukraine, carrying out activities that meet the immediate needs of Ukrainian citizens. The first project helped about 30 children who lost their homes in frontline Ukraine and found refuge in a primary school in western Ukraine. More than 300 students at the school have been provided with digital textbooks.

The International Peace Bureau previously nominated organizations from Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia that help those who evade military service for this year's Nobel Prize.
