Ukrainian drones attack Triumf air defense system near Belgorod

Triumf S-400 anti-missile system

On Wednesday night, October 4, Ukrainian drones attacked the strategic air defense system near the Russian city of Belgorod.

Ukrainian mass media, RBC-Ukraine and Interfax-Ukraine, reported the incident, citing sources from Ukraine's Security Service.

The video posted by Russian Telegram channels shows that about 20 explosions rocked the city at the location of the Triumf air defense system and its radar station. The attack also caused a blackout in neighboring towns.

The Triumf S-400 is a Russian long-to-medium-range system, used to down aircraft and ballistic missiles. One new-generation air defense system costs about $1.2 billion.

It is the second Triumf system the Ukrainian security forces attacked in the past month. Ukrainian soldiers struck the first one in the occupied city of Yevpatoria in Crimea in mid-September.

In late August, the Ukrainian forces destroyed the Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile system and installed missiles and troops nearby.

In response to the Wednesday night attack, the authorities of the Belgorod and Bryansk Oblasts in Russia said that Ukrainian drones were "shot down," claiming no casualties or damage.
