Over 4,000 Russian cyberattacks successfully defeated in 2023 – Security Service of Ukraine
Since the beginning of this year, cyber specialists of the Security Service of Ukraine have neutralized almost four thousand cyberattacks carried out by Russian hackers on the electronic systems of central authorities and critical infrastructure.
The Security Service of Ukraine reported this.
To strengthen the protective potential of state automated systems against Russian cyberattacks in wartime, the Ukrainian Special Service cyber department held a practical seminar for employees responsible for the information security of Ukraine's government bodies and strategic objects. More than 70 representatives of various departments participated in the event.
During the seminar, Security Service's employees conducted training on improving Ukraine's cyber security. The experts also shared best practices for countering cyber threats, particularly regarding information security event management systems (SIEM), end device protection (EDR), and mail services.
According to Ukraine's Security Service, most hostile cyberattacks aim to find unauthorized access to the electronic document flow of state institutions and technological infrastructure systems. Such "entry points" for Russian hackers are usually publicly available services, primarily e-mail.
The seminar participants worked out the algorithms of joint actions to respond to and minimize the negative consequences of the relevant cyberattacks.
To strengthen interdepartmental cooperation, the Security Service connected the electronic systems of more than 1,700 representatives of government structures and strategically essential objects to the MISP-UA platform for exchanging information on discovered cyber incidents.
