Russian shelling kills police officer in Kherson

The Russian shelling killed a police officer in the southern city of Kherson.

A policeman was seriously injured while rescuing a civilian, Rubryka reports, referring to the first deputy chief of the Patrol Police Department, Oleksii Biloshytskyi.

"Doctors fought for his life, but, unfortunately, the policeman on patrol died on the operating table," the statement said.

Biloshitskyi also published a photo of the Kherson patrol car that came under Russian fire today. Doctors are currently fighting for the life of another police officer.

As Rubryka reported earlier, on Monday, a police car came under fire in Kherson. Two officers were wounded. There were also victims among civilians.

"During the morning shelling, KORD special forces managed to rescue a civilian whose leg was torn off under the ongoing explosions," Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said. "The victim was handed over to doctors. Their condition is critical."

What we know about the Russian shelling of Kherson on October 2

All night and morning of Monday, October 2, Russian troops bombed and shelled Kherson. Powerful explosions continued rocking the southern city.

The shelling injured eight people. Among them are two children, 12- and 13-year-old sisters and their mother. In another city district, three men were injured in the morning; one is in serious condition. Two police officers were also injured. 

Over the past week, the Russian forces significantly intensified the shelling of Kherson and the Ukrainian-controlled part of the region. In addition to aerial bombs, the Russians also fired missiles at the city.

On Sunday night of October 1, the Russian occupying forces dropped ten aerial bombs on the Kherson region. Oleksandr Tolokonnikov, the spokesperson for the Kherson regional administration, reported that four people were injured in the shelling. He added that one person was under the rubble.

Tolokonnikov added that over the past seven to eight days, the Russian occupiers have dropped 166 aerial bombs on the region.

Yesterday afternoon, October 1, the Russian army attacked a residential quarter of Kherson using a drone. Employees of the State Emergency Service had to rescue a mother and three children whose house caught fire due to the shelling.
