Three out of four drones hit the target, Rubryka reports, citing the statement of Ukraine's Defense Intelligence.
"On October 1, 2023, an attack on the Smolensk Aviation Plant disrupted the production of Kh-59 missiles of various modifications," the statement said. "According to confirmed data, three out of four drones hit the target, causing significant damage to the production facilities of the aggressor state's military enterprise."
The Kh-59, a 280-km-range air-to-surface missile, is one of the major types of ammunition that the Russian Aerospace Forces most often use to target military and civilian facilities in Ukraine.
Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions in the north and Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions in the center and south of the country suffer the most from such weapons. For example, during the massive attacks on Ukraine on September 26, in addition to kamikaze drones, the Russian troops also used several types of missiles, including "Iskanders" and Kh-59.
Rubryka reported that drones attacked Smolensk and Sochi on Sunday morning, October 1. The media reported that the drone attacked the Smolensk Aviation Plant, which is part of the Tactical Missile Armament state corporation.
The Russian defense ministry claimed that the air defense allegedly destroyed five drones. In a video spread on social media, explosions could be heard, and smoke could be seen after one of the drones fell.
The governor of the Smolensk Oblast said that the drones tried to hit the aircraft factory in Smolensk. Meanwhile, the mayor of Smolensk asked people "not to leave residential buildings without an urgent need, and also to refrain from out-of-town trips."
The Russian authorities traditionally did not report on the destruction.
Recently, Russia has published more statements about drones attacking Russian cities, including the capital Moscow. Traditionally, such "air attacks" are attributed to Ukraine.
