Ukrainian drones attack Russian helicopter base in Sochi – intelligence
Ukrainian drones attacked the Russian cities of Smolensk and Sochi, targeting the enemy airfields, several Kremlin media sources confirm.
The drone attack occurred on the morning of October 1st, the local residents filmed rounds of explosions.
Russia's Defense Ministry claims that the air defense downed five drones. Videos on social media show explosions and smoke after one of the drones crashed.
The governor of the Smolensk region says that the drones were trying to strike an aircraft plant, while Russian authorities did not report on the destruction.
Sochi governor said over ten flights were suspended due to the attack. Soon, Ukraine's intelligence confirmed to the Hromadske media that the drone targeted the helicopter base.
Sweeping drone attacks on many cities, including Moscow, have frequently targeted Russia. Authorities blame Ukraine for the combat activity.
On July 24, two drones attacked Moscow. One vehicle reportedly hit a business center housing a Leroi Merlin store, and the other crashed near the Russian Defense Ministry building and the GRU cyber intelligence headquarters.
At the end of May, according to Russian media, Moscow and the region were attacked by about 25 drones, most of them shot down by air defense.
