New US weapons “will make their presence felt on the battlefield” – Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the defense package from the United States contains such types of weapons that would make themselves known on the battlefield.

"It was a productive week. Very. We have a lot of good defense and other solutions. Defense packages. From the United States – this is artillery; we need shells, missiles for HIMARS systems, missiles for air defense, additional air defense systems, tactical vehicles, and other weapons that will make their presence felt on the battlefield," the president said.

According to Zelensky, Canada also decided on long-term defense support for Ukraine.

"The amount is half a billion US dollars. In particular, these are medical evacuation vehicles, which are very necessary at the front. We have agreed on production and supply," he emphasized.

"There is a historic decision by America on the joint production of weapons and defense systems, including air defense systems. This is something that was an absolute fantasy until recently. But it will become a reality. We will make it a reality. Everyone who works for the state. And this is a new quality of the defense industry of Ukraine – much stronger. And this is the economy. Protection for our cities. Enterprises, new jobs for both our peoples – for both Ukrainians and Americans. We have a clear perspective – what we have already agreed on – a new strength of Ukraine to prevent a repetition of Russian aggressions. I am grateful to President Biden, his entire team, and everyone in America who values freedom and supports Ukraine," Zelensky said.

He also reported that he held crucial meetings in Washington in Congress.

"In general, many morally strong and important positions were voiced in America at different levels – from the highest level to all those with whom the Ukrainian delegation worked—the same in Canada. Clear unity. There are new sanctions against Russia, and there will be even more sanctions pressure.

We have economic agreements – both with governments and businesses. There is a decision on a free trade zone with Canada. In Washington, there is a memorandum on energy cooperation. In Ottawa, there was an agreement on restoring the Kakhovka HPP and reconstructing the Kaniv HPP. Large companies from the USA and Canada are obviously interested in working in Ukraine. At the Ministry of Strategy and Industry level – mutual understanding with defense companies. And there is a fundamental mutual understanding at the level of societies – at the level of ordinary people who worry about Ukraine and wish us victory, and all Ukrainians – protection from Russian terror. When ordinary people in America say they pray for Ukraine, it really touches and adds strength to our relations," the head of state emphasized.

Zelensky thanked the Canadian government for its willingness to allocate funding for the Holodomor-genocide museum to complete this museum.

He also spoke about the agreements of the First Lady of Ukraine regarding support for the rehabilitation of veterans and about the relevant Ukrainian-Canadian medical partnership.

"Olena expands the access of Ukrainian culture to the world's leading museums, and now there is an agreement with the Metropolitan Museum in New York. Olena held important meetings and addresses at the UN site, particularly those related to protecting Ukrainian children during the war," the president said.
