5G internet to go online in Ukraine by 2024 — digital ministry
The Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine is negotiating the launch of 5G in Ukraine.
Mykhailo Fedorov, the Ministry of Digital Transformation head, said this in an interview with Forbes, Rubryka reports.
What is the problem?
The decision to implement the technology in Ukraine, which speeds up the mobile Internet many times over, was made in the spring of 2019. However, this was prevented by the pandemic and the full-scale invasion of Russia. According to Fedorov, as early as 2024, Ukraine may have fifth-generation (5G) cellular communication.
What is the solution?
"We are negotiating with one company. I hope that the pilot launch will be already next year."
"We cannot say whether it will work out. These are our plans, but we are detailing them to publicly announce and improve them," Fedorov stated.
How does it work?
He emphasized that the ministry is also working on improving 4G. During the war, a lot of equipment was moved to strengthen certain regions. Over the past year, communication has deteriorated, but the situation is changing. "We are working on it and have strengthened the team in this direction," the minister said.

The main advantage that 5G gives ordinary users is the data transfer speed. It is expected to reach 10 Gbps, so downloading a movie in HD quality will not even be a matter of minutes but seconds. In Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Switzerland, Kuwait, Australia, Spain, and Great Britain, 5G download speeds have already become faster than Wi-Fi, according to Opensignal, an analytical company. In addition, 5G promises to reduce signal latency to almost zero. All this can open wide opportunities for the development of autonomous transport, automation, and robotization of production.
Seventy-two countries in the world are actively using 5G, and 137 countries are still in the testing phase of the network.
