Today, September 21, in Washington, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, held a meeting with the leaders of the Congress of the United States of America.
This was stated by the speaker of the House of Representatives of the US Congress from the Republican Party, Kevin McCarthy, Rubryka writes with reference to The Guardian.
According to him, to the question "What do you need?" the president of Ukraine replied that Ukraine needs air defense and long-range artillery capable of hitting the Russians who occupied Crimea.
Based on Zelensky's description of the fighting conditions, McCarthy said that the US would not send their troops there in these conditions without providing more powerful air defense.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives added that the US and Ukraine cannot allow the situation to turn into a war of attrition.
"Putin wants to break the will of the American people and the Europeans, and they cannot allow that," he said.
McCarthy has expressed some disappointment with the administration of US President Joe Biden, saying they need to see a plan of victory win, accountability. Still, he believes he can win over Republicans skeptical about increasing aid and supplies to Ukraine.
